Would You Rather - Running Style

(Survey from Olive to Run)

1. Would you rather run a 5k or a marathon?

5k for sure! I'll probably do another marathon eventually, but I definitely know now that it takes a ridiculous amount of work, in both training and the race itself. I suppose running a really strong 5k, does too, but it's possible to run a 5k just for fun - I don't believe the same can be said of a marathon.

2. Would you rather run in the heat of summer or the icy winter?

Winter. It's always possible to add more layers to stay warm; after a certain point you can't keep removing layers to stay cool!

3. Would you rather have new running shoes or a new running outfit?

A cute running can definitely be a great motivation for a great run!

4. Would you rather run alone or in a group?

Both are good in their own way. When I was first starting to run and doing C25k, I ran with a couple coworkers, and that definitely helped make it through the tough moments (back when 90 seconds was such a hard interval to run through!)

5. Would you rather run next to someone in a race who tries to talk to you constantly or someone who breathes heavy and grunts?

Someone who tries to talk. Although I often go out for a training run to enjoy the quiet meditative quality of it, in a race a conversation can be a very useful distraction.

6. Would you rather run a race because of the convenience (location, price, travel) or the swag?

Convenience is usually a more important factor - location, price, travel, size, parking, traffic, etc.

7. Would you rather run a race with a group of friends or by yourself?

I've run a few races actually with a friend when we were at similar paces and abilities, but most of the time I'd rather that we each run our best for that day, and not try to stick to someone else. We can join back up at the finish line to celebrate together even if we cross at different times!

8. Would you rather run a PR but result in an injury or finish strong and missing a PR?

Miss the PR but finish without injury, for sure! You can always attempt a PR again, but if you're injured, you might not ever run again at all.

9. Would you rather eat a big meal the night before or a big meal after race?

After, but not immediately after. For half marathons or longer races, I'm not very hungry for a couple hours afterwards.

10. Would you rather be chased by a swarm of bees or a pack of dogs?

Hmmm. Swarms of bees, I think. I used to think I'm not afraid of dogs (and I'm generally not), but one time while running in my parents' town, a couple of little bitty dogs were outside unsupervised and wouldn't let me run past their house. One of them tried to bite me on the leg, and although he didn't break the skin, he did leave a bruise!
